EASTER...what is this day?

Numerous people asked me what I was doing for Easter...and my answer was always the same...going to church in the morning and then brunch at my Grandmas retirement home with the old folks!...but I started to realize just how many people were celebrating Easter...they may not be attending church in the morning, but the day will be spent with family and friends and involve eating food. So these people come together...but what is it that they are celebrating? Have they forgotten what Easter is truly about...the resurrection of Jesus and not simply a day spent with the family...but a day spent with the family rejoicing in that resurrection and being thankful for that new life through Jesus.

Has our country and culture commercialized Easter soo much that people have lost the true meaning of Easter??

Well according to About.com...On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ. It is typically the most well-attended Sunday service of the year for Christian churches.

Christians believe according to Scripture, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion, is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter. Through his death, burial and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, thus purchasing for all who believe in him, eternal life in Christ Jesus.

So the online definition mentions "it is typically the most well-attended Sunday service of the year for Christian churches"...and I understand why this is...it's just like Christmas...people will go to church on Easter and Christmas and after those 2 visits they will have reached their church quota for the year...but what about the other Sundays...what about the Monday through Saturday...do you just forget about the reason why you even went to church on those holidays??....so consider Jesus...consider His sacrifice for us...don't you think its worth going to church more than 2 days a year to hear about this man?...He did give his life for us...dont you think he deserves more than 2 days? I mean it's the least we can do...=)
